WHAT MAKES A

GOOD PHOTO

What makes a good photo?

A family portrait can take on many different forms, depending on the dynamic of your family.  The best colours to wear for family pictures are colours that match your family’s personality, photo surroundings and of course match your home décor in order to display beautiful collections side by side on your walls.

One question we get asked a lot is:  What do I wear?  Here are a few tips to help you decide.

  • Try and wear solid coloured clothing so that we see all of your faces and no one person stands out. If you wear stripes or flowers, you will stand out from the rest of your group.

  • Decide on 1-3 colours for your group portraits, ones with similar tones that go nicely together and work within a colour palette. For example: dark green, navy, and burgundy, or try pastel colours, light pink, red or orange. The lighter colours look really good on younger children.

  • Black & denim or white & denim have been popular for many years, sometimes just the simple look may be what you’re going for and we’ve had some families really rock this look!  Adding a small head band onto a girl’s hair really adds to the images as well.  (Don’t worry about going and finding any, we have plenty to use in the studio!)

Remember this is your family portrait session so if you want to stick with the same colour palette; great, if not, maybe try something different.
